Discover our Lettuce
We invest in our lettuce breeding program to help British growers succeed while reducing waste and environmental impacts of production.
Innovations and solutions
We breed lettuce varieties to address the needs of British growers and their customers.
Our extensive range is specially selected to address yield, uniformity, field holding ability, pest and disease control, bolting, ease of harvest and processing, and shelf life, amongst the many other considerations our growers need to consider when choosing the right variety.
We aim for our varieties and high-quality seeds to offer growers the best chances of a successful crop; and to promote healthy, fresh produce in the UK market.

We are happy to introduce Corvinas RZ, an iceberg featuring Knox™. The Knox™ trait improves shelf life by delaying the browning of cut surfaces. If you’re looking for fresher leaves, look for Knox™ Lettuce breeders since 1961
Breeding & Selection
Breeding & Selection Rijk Zwaan was established in 1924, and our first professional lettuce varieties were released in 1961. Our lettuce program is ever evolving to meet changing market needs and environmental challenges.
Innovation is underpinned by our deep commitment to research and development. We invest around 30% of our turnover in R&D each year to ensure our customers success in a changing world.
Producing high-quality seed
Our seeds are produced in Australia, The Netherlands, France, the USA, Chile and Peru. Each specific variety is managed differently to produce the best quality outcomes.
There are four pillars of seed quality: germination performance, seed health, genetic purity, and seed purity.
We don’t compromise on quality.
